<h1>Installation<a class="headerlink" href="#installation" title="Link to this heading">¶</a></h1>
<p>To install TreeSize, execute the setup file and follow the instructions. TreeSize requires Windows 10 Version 1809, Server 2016 Version 1607, or upwards as well as .Net framework 4.8, which will be installed automatically when missing.</p>
<p>The setup program will copy the necessary files to your hard drive and will create a new program group in the Start menu/screen.</p>
<p>You will find the installation key for the registered version on the license document (PDF) sent to you after the purchase. During your maintenance period the key will be provided in the <a class="reference external" href="https://customers.jam-software.de/?language=EN">customer area</a>.</p>
<p>TreeSize can be uninstalled using the Software applet in the Windows Control Panel. A portable installation on USB removable device can be created using the ribbon bar “Tools”.</p>

<h2>Unattended Installation<a class="headerlink" href="#unattended-installation" title="Link to this heading">¶</a></h2>
<p>To perform a silent and automatic installation with the default settings, start the EXE-based installer with the command line parameters:</p>

<p>Please replace <cite>YourInstallKey</cite> with the installation key that you received after your registration.</p>
<p>Using <cite>/VERYSILENT</cite> instead of <cite>/SILENT</cite> will prevent any visual feedback.</p>
<p>The option <cite>/DIR=”x:\dirname”</cite> can be used to override the default install path.</p>

<h3>Roll-out on various work stations<a class="headerlink" href="#roll-out-on-various-work-stations" title="Link to this heading">¶</a></h3>
<p>If you want to roll-out TreeSize on multiple work stations (25 and more licenses), you can <a class="reference external" href="https://customers.jam-software.de/?language=EN">download a 64Bit MSI installer</a>.</p>
<p>To perform a silent and unattended installation using the MSI-Installer, you need to use a command line like this for MsiExec:</p>

<p>Please prefix the MSI file with the path of the network share, in which the MSI file is stored, and adjust the installation key.</p>
<p>You may also set the property <cite>INSTALLATION_KEY</cite> by modifying the MSI file using a <a class="reference external" href="https://learn.microsoft.com/de-de/windows/win32/msi/orca-exe?redirectedfrom=MSDN">tool like Orca</a>.</p>

<section id="activation">
<h3>Activation<a class="headerlink" href="#activation" title="Link to this heading">¶</a></h3>
<p>TreeSize needs to be activated for each user and device it is used on. This usually happens in the background automatically by calling our activation server at <a class="reference external" href="https://api.jam-software.de">https://api.jam-software.de</a>. In environments with no internet access, the activation can be achieved manually by uploading an activation request from another PC and transferring the activation response back to the system to activate.</p>
<p>Customers with 25 or more licenses can reuse their activation response on several systems to avoid having to perform all activation steps on every single system. To deploy the activation response along with the installation, please copy it to an accessible storage location (might be a network path or a fix path on the target device) and provide the path to the file to the installer. To perform the activation after the installation, you might also call the LicenseManager.exe directly:</p>

<li><p>For the MSI installer, append the parameter <code class="docutils literal notranslate"><span class="pre">ACTIVATIONRESPONSE="<Path>"</span></code></p></li>
<li><p>To perform the activation at any point after the installation, call the LicenseManager.exe located in the installation directory: <code class="docutils literal notranslate"><span class="pre">LicenseManager.exe</span> <span class="pre">license</span> <span class="pre">activate</span> <span class="pre">--activationResponse</span> <span class="pre"><Path></span></code></p></li>

<section id="default-settings">
<h2>Default Settings<a class="headerlink" href="#default-settings" title="Link to this heading">¶</a></h2>
<p>TreeSize stores its settings in the user profile by default. If there are no options stored yet, e.g. for the first start of the application, default settings will take effect.</p>
<p>You can adjust these default settings system-wide by creating entries in the Windows registry for each setting at <cite>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JAM Software\TreeSize</cite>.</p>
<p>To simplify this configuration, we provide <a class="reference external" href="https://www.jam-software.com/redirects?ADMX">administrative templates for the Group Policy Editor</a>.</p>
